Throughout my career I have remained committed to supporting students who have been underserved by the wider educational community in an on-going quest for social justice. My research focuses on developing and analyzing the best ways to prepare teachers for meeting the instructional challenges of 21st century classrooms. I collaborate with teachers to create student-centered learning environments where all students can succeed. My work involves creating research-based, high quality professional development for teachers at the K-12 and university levels. I spend much of my time in urban secondary schools, implementing programs and researching their impacts. Supported by an entrepreneurship grant from the NSF, I formed a consulting group to scale this work to new contexts. This deep and sustained involvement with K-12 schools infuses my university-level teaching and shapes my service to the university as I share research-based insights about best teaching and assessment practices.
