Michael Branson Smith is a web artist, technologist, and associate professor of Communications Technology and presently spends a lot of time learning the JavaScript programming language, in particular testing application models to work with student data sets. This is a peculiar pivot from his more recent work creating animated GIFs. He now regularly teaches a courses in web design and development, hanging up his GIF making hat two years ago.
MBS is the former Director of Academic Computing and Educational Technology at York College. He is particularly interested in understanding student experiences with various CUNY student information systems. His students have completed user experience studies of these applications and proposed alternative interaction design models.
MBS works on special projects for the CUNY Academic Commons, a home-grown academic social network built with the open-source tools Wordpress/Buddypress.
