Write an essay (hand written or typed are both acceptable) of ≥ 500 words which consists of a choice from the following:

a. A biographical essay about a contributor to some aspect of graph theory, convexity, geometry, or discrete mathematics. (Be sure to include a bibliography indicating your sources.)
b. An account of a newspaper or magazine article which deals explicitly or implicitly with an application of combinatorics or graph theory.
c. With permission you can substitute some other project.

Sources:

Dictionary of Scientific Biography, encyclopedias, INFOTRAC, biographies of specific individuals, books on the history of mathematics, material from the Web. There is a history of graph theory written by R. Wilson, et al.

(For material from the Web submit a copy of what your essay is based on. Similarly, for a magazine or newspaper article.)

Due Date: November 8 (Monday)

Notes:

a. Regard this as a first draft and we will work together towards improving the first draft.

b. Do not fail to attend on November 8 without having already handed the paper in or contacting me about its status. I would rather have it late than that you cut class to avoid turning it in.
