Fern Baudo received her Doctorate in Educational Administration from St Johns University and her Master’s of Science in Nursing from Columbia University. Baudo has been a nurse for over 25 years. Her doctoral research addressed nursing faculties’ instructional practices related to advance care planning. Her research interests continue to be in advocacy however she has expanded research to include autism and support of autistic individuals in the community. Her work experience spans from psychiatry to critical care, hospice, research, and education. Dr. Baudo’s mission is to advocate for individuals who have challenges advocating for themselves. Her work has included helping support patients in their journey to ensure that their life and end of life has quality. Her personal and professional passion for advance care planning led Dr. Baudo to write: If I Only Knew: Making Educated Medical Decisions as We Navigate Through Life's Journey in 2015 to assist individuals struggling with choices about end of life care. She plans on writing another book on her life experiences as a mom caring for an autistic child. The book will address her experiences managing his education and health care needs including the pitfalls and how to avoid the challenges that she experienced. She has homeschooled her son since 2020 and has been intimately involved in both the management of his education and health care. Her future research interests include parents as interdisciplinary members of the healthcare and educational teams, and interdisciplinary simulations to educate the healthcare team on neurodiversity. Baudo currently holds appointments as an adjunct professor at Adelphi University and the City University New York, York College.
