Dr. Paula Stewart PP-OTD, OTR/L earned her Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy from York College CUNY (1997) and her Master’s in Health Science from Long Island University (2001). After 26 years of clinical experience, she went on to earn her Doctorate in Occupational Therapy from Barry University (2023). For over 2 decades, Dr. Stewart has worked in various arenas from acute care, rehab, in-patient, outpatient, and hands, though she is most well-known for her work with children with special needs. She is a SIPT-certified clinician which is an advanced national certification in the evaluation and treatment of children with sensory processing disorders and she is Bobath certified (Neuro-Developmental Therapy) for adults. For over 2 decades, she catered to families with children diagnosed with Autism, ADHD, Learning Disorders, Neuromuscular Disorders, and other conditions. She has created various pediatric-based programs and spearheaded a holistic tele-therapy program designed at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 providing evidenced-based guidance to pediatric therapists. In 2023, Dr. Stewart authored 3 chapters in the top 5 sellers of the AOTA Bookstore textbook, "Case Studies for Contemporary Occupational Therapy Practice: Guiding Critical Thinking for Students. She brings her wealth of knowledge to her role in academia and now research. She has taught as an Adjunct Assistant Professor for York College for 8 years and within her 9th year she was excited to transition into a full-time faculty position. Over the last decade, Dr. Stewart has also guest lectured at Columbia University, NYU, Downstate University, and LaGuardia College. For over 15 years she lectured as an authorized lecturer granted by the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) and the New York State Occupational Therapy Association (NYSOTA). She has presented for both the AOTA (2020) and NYSOTA (2022). A member of the New York State Black Occupational Therapy Caucus (NYS BOTC), AOTA, and NYSOTA, she has received numerous awards for her professional accomplishments and community services and in 2022 was awarded the Distinguished Alumni from York College Occupational Therapy Department.
