Tsehay Gebreyes

Public Health (BS), Class of 2024

Outside the classroom, Tsehay volunteers as a Research Assistant at the CUNY School of Public Health (CUNY|SPH), focusing on data collection and analysis. She has presented her research at various conferences, including a notable poster on “Knowledge and Attitudes of NYC Park-goers about Harmful Algae Blooms” at the New York City Epidemiology Forum. Additionally, her internships at Harlem United and Brooklyn College have involved her delving into health equity issues and analyzing obesity and asthma predictors using the 2022 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) dataset.

Health Initiative Impact: Dedicated to advancing public health, Tsehay actively shares her knowledge through her LinkedIn articles, where she has published pieces such as “Measles on the Rise: Is Your State at Risk?” and “The Other Side of the Needle: Vaccine Perspectives from the Developing World.” These articles aim to educate a broad audience about the importance of vaccinations. Additionally, she extends her outreach through her YouTube channel, further engaging with the public on vital health issues.

What’s Next: Tsehay is enthusiastic about completing her graduate degree through our 4+1 bachelor’s-to-graduate track program at CUNY|SPH. She is eager to apply her expertise at the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH). Her long-term goal is to continue her research in public health, focusing on environmental factors that trigger infectious diseases.
