York’s MSW Program Earns National Accreditation

Following a rigorous multi-year candidacy peer review process, York College, CUNY President Dr. Berenecea Johnson Eanes is excited to announce that York’s Master of Social Work (MSW) Program has earned initial accreditation by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) Commission on Accreditation (COA)

Recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) is the sole accrediting body for social work education in the United States and its territories. The official announcement is available on CSWE’s Website.

“I am especially grateful to have steered this three-year, highly successful endeavor," says Dr. Selena T. Rodgers, Founding Director of Queens’ only MSW program. "This would not have been possible without the tremendous support from the MSW team, York College administration, the college community, southeast Queens elected officials, and MSW scholars, past and present. In August 2018, we began with the recruitment and retention of two MSW cohorts, a two-year generalist and an advanced standing cohort with healthcare as our specialized focus. To date, 30 Master of Social Work degrees have been conferred and we look forward to growing the program to support the next generation of social workers and emerging leaders."

According to Dr. Rodgers, "the acknowledgment of our efforts during the nationally recognized Social Work Month adds to our pride and excitement. "In the fall of 2020, the graduate program entered its third year enrolling 42 new MSW Scholars.”

President Eanes, who also holds a PhD in Social Work, is happy to see this important accreditation come to fruition on her watch.

This status emboldens us in our efforts to provide affordable graduate social work training to the thousands of aspiring students right in their own borough and beyond.”
