Five York College Aviation students, on both the undergraduate and graduate levels, recently presented their research findings on "How Does Climate Change Impact the Aviation Industry" and "A.I.'s Influence in the Airline Industry," respectively.

Graduate authors of the award-winning research were Mohammed Rahik, Ahmed and Algendra Dharamdatt under faculty advisor, Dr. Billy Metallinos; and undergraduates Emiliano M. Tortolero, Sanchita Paul and Dessa A. Weekes also advised by Dr. Billy Metallinos

The students’ work garnered a third-place prize at the Annual University Aviation Association (UAA) Conference and were awarded $250 per group for their presentations.

“Your research on "How Does Climate Change Impact the Aviation Industry" and "A.I.'s Influence in the Airline Industry" is truly commendable, said Geoff Ware, of UAA in notifying Dr. Billy Metallinos, who mentored and accompanied the students.

"Attending the University Aviation Association (UAA) conference was a transformative experience,” said Algendra Dharamdatt, a graduate student in the York group. “It was a hub of fresh ideas, where I got a firsthand look at what is on the horizon for aviation. I connected with people who are not only passionate but also pushing the industry forward, and it was inspiring to share thoughts and dive into some truly innovative conversations. The workshops were valuable and gave me new skills that I am eager to bring back to my workforce. I was reminded that in the dynamic world of aviation, the pursuit of knowledge is crucial as every new insight empowers me to contribute meaningfully to the industry’s evolution."

University Aviation Association (UAA) known as “the voice of collegiate aviation to colleges, universities, the aviation industry, government and the general public,” is said to be “the voice of collegiate aviation to colleges, universities, the aviation industry, government and the general public.” It features almost 1,500 members from 131-member colleges and universities in the U.S., Canada, Australia, Europe, and Asia.
