Master of Social Work (MSW) Reaccreditation Announcement!

At its February 2025 meeting, the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) Board of Accreditation (BOA) reviewed the reaffirmation materials for CUNY York College’s Master of Social Work (MSW) Program. The BOA voted to reaffirm the program’s accreditation for eight years, without any condition, through February 2033.

We are proud to announce that, at its February 2025 meeting, the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) Board of Accreditation (BOA) reviewed the reaffirmation materials for CUNY York College’s Master of Social Work (MSW) Program. The BOA voted to reaffirm the program’s accreditation for eight years, without any condition, through February 2033. The BOA is recognized by Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) as the sole accrediting body for social work education in the United States and its territories.

According to the CSWE Website, as of February 2025, York is one of 345 accredited master’s social work programs. “Since implementing the 2022 Educational Policy Accreditation Standards (EPAS), York has distinguished itself as one of eleven accredited MSW Programs and only CUNY graduate social work program that has successfully transitioned and undergone a rigorous evaluation.” said Dr. Rodgers, a CSWE BOA Certified Site Visitor since 2019. Per the BOA Policy Handbook, accreditation provides reasonable assurance of the program’s quality and the competence of its graduates.

This is a significant milestone that highlights York’s determination to live up to its mission.

Thank you to Dr. Selena T. Rodgers, founding director of the MSW Program at CUNY York College, and chairperson of the Department of Social Work, and her team, for their tireless work on elevating this valuable program at York College.

Below are additional details on reaccreditation and our standing.

  • The MSW Program at CUNY York College is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education’s (CSWE) Board of Accreditation.
  • The CSWE BOA reaffirmed 59 master’s level social work programs during its meetings in June 2024, October 2024, and February 2025.
  • As reported by the BOA, York’s MSW Program is one of the only two graduate social work programs that met and exceeded all 100 EPAS without a progress report.
  • York is paving the way for CUNY Graduate Social Work Programs and national programs that are not yet utilizing the 2022 EPAS or not meeting all compliance areas.

“I am confident that achieving full accreditation for the MSW Program at CUNY York College is attributed to the unwavering dedication of our stakeholders, including currently enrolled and graduated scholars, the MSW Team, department faculty, college administrators, CUNY University Dean for Health & Human Services, practicum supervisors, agency partners, advisory board members, elected officials, and the college community. Thank you all for your invaluable contributions!” affirmed Rodgers.

As the first accredited graduate social work program in Queens County, NY, York’s MSW program has grown to become the second-largest graduate program at the college. Since its launch, the Master of Social Work Program at CUNY York College has seen remarkable growth, demonstrating a 154% increase in enrollment between 2018 and 2024. The program has graduated 146 MSW scholars, and 31 more are scheduled to participate in the spring 2025 commencement exercises. Additionally, the program now offers a part-time cohort option to provide greater flexibility for scholars.
