Spring Mini-Open House Welcomes Future Cardinals to York College

A major highlight was the student panel

York College proudly hosted its annual Spring Mini-Open House in late March, offering prospective students and their families an exciting glimpse into life as a future Cardinal. With over 100 attendees, the event provided an in-depth exploration of York's vibrant campus community, diverse academic programs, and comprehensive support services.

The event began with a warm welcome from Nicholas Jones, executive director of Enrollment Management, who emphasized York's unwavering commitment to student success. His engaging overview set the stage for a day filled with interactive experiences and valuable insights.

A major highlight was the student panel moderated by Randall Houston. Current students Isaiah Prentice, Nya McDowell, Angela Candela, and Darious Pickett shared personal stories, offering authentic perspectives on academic life, extracurricular activities, campus culture, and career support services at York. Their candid reflections resonated with attendees, sparking enthusiasm and thoughtful conversations.

Understanding financial aid can often be daunting, which is why Cheryl Morrison's informative session on FAFSA, scholarships, and tuition assistance was particularly beneficial. Attendees learned essential tips and strategies to navigate the financial aid process confidently, ensuring that finances do not become a barrier to pursuing higher education.

During the Faculty Meet & Greet, Deans Maureen Becker and George White led faculty representatives in showcasing York College’s diverse academic offerings. Prospective students engaged directly with professors, gaining valuable insight into specialized programs, innovative curriculum, and unique opportunities that set York apart.

To enhance the day, optional campus tours led by Warren Rollins allowed attendees to experience York’s state-of-the-art facilities firsthand. Highlights included the Aviation Flight Simulator, the advanced Nursing Lab, the School Library, and the Physical Education Building. These immersive experiences gave visitors a clear vision of the hands-on learning environment York proudly provides.

Additionally, the FAFSA Lab offered personalized support from CUNYFast Coaches, assisting families in completing financial aid applications on-site. This direct, practical assistance was greatly appreciated by many families navigating this critical step.

The successful event was the result of collaborative efforts from dedicated faculty and committed staff members. Their teamwork exemplified York College’s community-oriented spirit and dedication to helping prospective students find their place on campus.
