Dr. Zhou Selected to Prestigious Membership Panel

Dr. Zhu Zhou, associate professor, Department of Chemistry, was recently selected as a member of the Drug Discovery and Molecular Pharmacology B Study Section (DMPB) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Dr. Zhu Zhou is a member of the Drug Discovery and Molecular Pharmacology B Study Section at the National Institutes of Health.

The DMPB study section, a crucial part of NIH, is responsible for reviewing applications proposing preclinical work aimed at discovering new pharmacotherapeutic and immunotherapeutic agents for treating or preventing human body disorders with the exception of cancer and infectious diseases.

"I am deeply honored to have been selected as a member of the DMPB study section at the NIH. This is a testament to the hard work and dedication I have put into my research and teaching over the years," said Dr. Zhou upon being selected.

"This role requires a significant commitment of time and effort and reflects recognition from her peers of her substantial knowledge and contributions to the field. It also allows her to represent our college at the NIH study section,” said interim Dean Dr. George White, School of Arts and Sciences.

Before joining CUNY, Dr. Zhou held significant roles in academia and research. She was an assistant clinical professor at the University of the Pacific, a research scientist at the University of Washington, and a visiting scholar at the FDA. Her research, uses pharmacokinetic (PK) and modeling approaches to assess drug disposition, has been recognized with awards from the University of the Pacific and CUNY. She has authored over 50 peer-reviewed publications, abstracts and book chapters. She has presented her research in over 20 national and international conferences and webinars.  She has served as a PI for external grants and internal grants focused on PK research. Her lab is currently funded by the NIH. She currently serves as Scientific Awards Selection Task Force of the American Society for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics, NIH SuRE Program Resource Center Steering Committee member and vice president for Education for American Chinese Pharmaceutical Association. She servers as editorial board member for NPJ Drug Discovery and a reviewer for various journals. She is the recipient of the 2022 National Institute on Aging Butler-Williams Scholar Award and the 2023 American Society for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics Darrell Abernethy Early-Stage Investigator Award.
