York College celebrated a significant milestone with a ribbon-cutting ceremony unveiling a high-powered LED microscope and a state-of-the-art 3D printer. These innovative devices, which are not only set to elevate both STEM and Arts education but also provide unprecedented opportunities for students with disabilities, mark a significant step in our commitment to inclusivity and innovation.

Under the visionary leadership of interim President Claudia Schrader, the ceremony underscored the college’s commitment to accessibility and innovation. Vice Chancellor Denise Maybank, Interim Director of Disability Programs at CUNY Central Office Raymond Perez, and Vice President of Student Affairs & Enrollment Management Karen Williams delivered remarks. Isaac Augustin, President of CCSD@York, expressed appreciation and advocated for students with disabilities, highlighting the significance of these new resources. Faculty members Prof. Fawwaz Allie and Prof. Maria Pia Di Bonaventura demonstrated how the equipment supports students with low vision, blindness, and neurodivergent conditions, opening new possibilities for engagement in STEM disciplines, the Arts, and beyond.

This advancement, achieved without financial burden to the college, was made possible through the generous support of VC Maybank and the collaboration with York College Senior Director of Student Wellness and Resources, Charmaine Townsell.
