Connecting Curriculum with Career Competencies: Enhancing Student Success through NACE Competencies

Overview and Purpose 

Goals

  • Spark collaboration between faculty by providing funding and resources to develop innovative, co-curricular programs and projects for students within their respective department
  • Deepen student learning by generating new co-curricular opportunities linked to course learning and focused on complementing the learning inside the classroom
  • Build community by establishing new (and strengthening existing) on-campus networks and partnerships
  • Exploration of majors and career outcomes
  • Connect the learning to NACE Career Readiness Competencies (Career and Self Development, Communication, Critical Thinking, Equity and Inclusion, Leadership, Professionalism, Teamwork, and Technology)

Funding

To support co-curricular programming, Student Affairs and Enrollment Management is offering $1,200 for proposals from a total budget of $25,000 for this pilot year.  

  • Allowable Expenses: Speaker honorariums, metro cards for field trips, entrance fees, materials, food for events.
  • Non-Allowable Expenses: Salaries or stipends for York College students, faculty, or staff.

Application Process

  • Prepare Proposal: Include assignment overview, NACE competencies, budget, and timeline. 
  • Submit Application: Provide details on the submission platform, deadline, and required documents.
  • Submission Requirements: Detailed project description, budget breakdown, NACE competencies targeted, and assessment plan. 
  • Deadline: Friday, December 6, 2024 at 11:59pm
  • Announcement of Funding Recipients: Monday, December 16, 2024 

Evaluation Criteria

  • Relevance: How well the assignment integrates with course content. 
  • Innovation: The creativity and engagement level of the assignment. 
  • Impact: The potential to significantly enhance student learning and career readiness. 
  • Collaboration: Documented collaboration with other faculty, career services, and external partners.  
  • Budget Use: Effective and justified use of seed money.
  • Assessment: Clear plan to measure the assignment's effectiveness in teaching the NACE competencies. 

Additional Instructions and Information

  • As with any grant process, there is a variety of information to consider before, during, and after application. Below are a few items to aid in the process: 
  • Once grant decisions are announced, the process for disbursement of grant funds will be discussed with individual grantees.
  • All paperwork for grant funds must be encumbered before March 14th, 2025. Project work can continue beyond this date. 
  • Grant recipients are asked to complete a final program evaluation at the completion of the co-curricular project.
  • In situations where, full funding may not be available for a project, the Committee may recommend partial funding after consultation with the applicant.
