Achieve in High School - Succeed in College Enroll in a Free Summer Program For New York City’s Public High School Students.
Earn Three College Credits in Summer
Study with us this summer at the York College campus if you are interested in the (1) universe, stars, and planets or (2) individual health behavior and ways to reduce personal health risks.
Students may enroll in one section of college-credit Astronomy or one section of college-credit Health Education. Students may not take both courses.
- July 5 – August 10, 2023
- Monday - Thursday, 9:00 AM – 11:30 AM OR 12:30 PM – 3:00 PM
Earn three (3) college credits upon successful completion.
Please Note: Both the morning and afternoon sections are the same courses so students should enroll in only one class.
Astronomy
ASTR 102: Introductory Astronomy: Stars, Galaxies and the Universe (3 college credits, Monday-Thursday) This course teaches basic elements of astronomy and students to learn not only how the sky moves and appears, but also how that information forms our model of the Universe.
Section 1: ASTR 102 Introductory Astronomy: Stars, Galaxies and the Universe (3 college credits, M-TH, 9:00 -11:30)
Section 2: ASTR102 Introductory Astronomy: Stars, Galaxies and the Universe (3 college credits, M-TH, 12:30 -3:00)
Health Education
HE 111: Self-assessment of individual health behavior in the areas of cardiovascular health, stress, sex and sexuality, substance abuse, nutrition, etc.; information and strategies for the reduction of personal health risk.
Section 1: HE 111: Health and the Individual (3 college credits, M-TH, 9:00 -11:30)
Section 2: HE 111: Health and the Individual (3 college credits, M-TH, 12:30 -3:00)
Eligibility to enroll
All Students must
- be a New York City public high school student, entering as a junior or senior in September 2023
- have a minimum overall average of 80 and a grade of at least 85 in any science class
