Commencement Exercise Appeal
Policy
Students wishing to participate in the Spring 2025 commencement exercises but did not complete their degree requirements by the end of the Spring 2025 term must petition the Committee of Commencement Appeals.
Students eligible to petition the Committee of Commencement Appeals must:
- Have a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 for major and overall GPA. However, Clinical Laboratory Science majors require a 2.5 GPA. Social Work majors require a 2.7 GPA. Occupational Therapy, Public Health, all Teacher Education majors, and all Graduate-level programs require a 3.0 GPA.
- Have no more than 4 (four) failing grades (F [Failed], or FIN [Incomplete changed to F], in the last two semesters.
- Need 9 (nine) credits or 3 (three) courses, whichever is fewer, to complete their degree requirements by the end of Fall 2025.
- Apply online for graduation through CUNYfirst Student Center (if student has not done so already).
The student will receive an email notifying them of the decision of their appeal by Friday, April 25, 2025. Should the appeal be approved, the student should consult the Commencement website for information/next steps for ceremony participation (for example: deadlines, purchasing regalia, and late fees).
Student names will not appear in the Spring 2025 Commencement Program since they did not officially complete their degree requirements.
Also, students who decline to attend Spring 2025 Commencement will not be allowed to participate in the 2026 Commencement Exercises.
The Commencement Appeal application will be available Monday, March 10 – Wednesday, April 16, 2025 (application closes at 11:59pm).
