Frequently Asked Questions About Library Computer Use and Printing

Computer Use

York College provides access to resources such as computers, printing, and reference databases while QHSS students are in the Library. If you attended QHSS in the 2024-2025 academic year and are a returning student, you will be able to login on the first day of classes in September. If you are a new or transfer student, an account will be created for you as soon as practicable.

Logging In the First Time

The default username is the student’s DOE email prefix.

For example, if the DOE email is "djohn@nycstudents.net", the student’s username will be “djohn”.

The initial password will be the student’s OSIS number. This is a temporary password and must be changed after logging in for the first time.

Whenever they login to a computer, students must include "QHSSYC" before their username, for example, “QHSSYC\djohn”.

After changing the password, students should set up security questions so that they can reset their password themselves in case they forget it.

What do I do if I forget my password?

If a student forgets their password and did not create secuity questions, they must speak to a librarian at the Reference Desk. The librarian can reset the password.

If a student created security questions they can reset your password themselves using the QHSS self-service portal

How do I set up up my security questions?

To set up your security questions, students should use the QHSS self-service portal

Students should select "Edit my Profile" tile, complete the Captcha verification, and enter their account information. Students will be prompted to set up answers to three (3) security questions. Once they have set up their security questions, they can reset or change their password any time using the self-service portal.

Printing Credit

At the beginning of the academic year, each QHSS student is allocated $25.00 toward printing in the Library.

Students should not print directly from web pages as this can easily send more papers then what the student is viewing, which can waste paper and printing credit value. Before students print a document check the page count to manage output and not end up with a run-away job.
