Scholarship and Award Descriptions
AKA HBCU Scholarship Fund
The purpose of the fund is to support York scholars who are in financial need, with the AKA HBCU Scholarship Fund to be awarded to a York student who is a full-time student. The Donor intends that when awarding this scholarship special consideration be given to students who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents.The student should show a commitment to academic success (a minimum 2.5 GPA).
Anna Marie Cazeau Award Scholarship
To memorialize Anna Marie Cazeau, and in future, Luc Robert Cazeau, with an award to a sophomore, junior or senior student who is pursuing a major in The School of Health Sciences and Professional programs. The award will offer smaller, non-traditional financial support for expenses beyond tuition, including books, transportation, food, healthcare, and other college-related expenses. Active in Social justice initiatives, programs, or organizations on campus or off.
Carolyn Kirkpatrick Scholarship
The purpose of this award is for general excellence in English studies to provide deserving students wthe opportunity to receive the finest education in English studies. No essay or letters of recommendatiare required.
Chemistry
The purpose of this scholarship is to help with the cost of text books for chemistry courses.
Con Edison Endowed Scholarship
To encourage academic enrichment in the field of STEM education, Biology, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Earth Science, Geology, Information Systems, Mathematics, Physics.
Dennis Moorman Scholarship
Established in memory of Dr. Dennis Moorman, Professor of Music at York College; the scholarship provides talented and deserving students the opportunity to pursue a music education with emphasis in Jazz.
Diangi Scholarship
To provide support to students interested in preventive law with an emphasis on preventive law for the elderly.
Dr. Che-Tsao Huang Endowment
To encourage and recognize an outstanding communications technology graduate, presented at the awards ceremony.
Dr. Vincent Banrey JR. Outst. Serv Award
A monetary award and medal, to recognize a junior or senior (60 plus credits) for their outstanding service to York College and its students. The monetary award is to be used toward school expenses(i.e. tuition, books, transportation, etc.).
Dr. Taen-Yu Dai Memorial Award Endowment
To memorialize Dr. Taen-Yu Dai with an award to a graduating student who is interested in continuing studies in mathematics or mathematics-adjacent fields.
Elena Borstein Scholarship
Funded by Painter Elena Borstien, a former member of the faculty of Performing and Fine Arts, this scholarship was established to support talented and promising Fine Arts majors and minor with at least junior standing.
Eugene Levin Scholarship
The Levin family has established the Professor Eugene Levin Scholarship for Excellence in the Sciences (Levin Scholarship) to honor his memory. The purpose of this scholarship is to provide aid to students who have made a commitment to the sciences.
Frank Pomilla Award
To award and recognize academic excellence and to provide financial aid to students who have made a commitment to teaching science, especially physics.
H. Nash Scholarship
To provide cash awards to two lower seniors majoring in English and English Education who have the highest overall GPAs.
Janice Cline Justice Award
The award will be given to an English or Journalism major who demonstrates a commitment to using their education (their work towards their degree and what they learn studying in the English Dept.) to further the larger struggles for freedom, justice, equality, and dignity that Janice Cline embraced. The award will recognize a student who demonstrates a spirit of political activism in some way, whose work in the world may have the kind of impact and powerful message that Janice Cline's work has. This is quite different from a community service or public service award, and is based largely on faculty members' subjective observations its students. It is thus a unique award for the English Dept. because it asks faculty to individually interpret Janice Cline's legacy as outlined above and identify and nominate students who they see using their work in our department to contribute to that legacy in some way.
Ken Adams Memorial Scholarship Fund
To provide talented and deserving students the opportunity to pursue a music education with an emphasis in music performance and music education
Mortimer Gold Memorial
Established to support academically promising sophomores majoring in Business, Communication Technology, Health Professions or Teacher Education. The award may be used toward tuition and fees, or if tuition and fees are covered by other means, to help purchase books and educational supplies, or support transportation costs.
MSW Fund For Excellence Award
A monetary award and medal to recognize a MSW Scholar for their outstanding service to York College and its students. The monetary award is to be used toward school expenses (i.e., tuition, books, transportation, etc.). Due to COVID-19, in spring 2020, we will give 2 (two) scholarships in the amount of $500 to two recipients. Starting fall 2021, 2 (two) scholarships will be given to two recipients annually during the spring semester.

Paul Althaus Memorial Award
This scholarship is for a fulltime Business or Accounting student of merit (top 10 percent of their class) who is in their junior or senior year and with a faculty recommendation and personal reference.
