Instructional Staff
The Hempstead High School's commitment to providing a quality learning experience for students is greatly enhanced by the contributions of the dedicated instructional staff.
Our cadre of instructors, who are endorsed and observed by the academic departments, hail from an array of disciplines, cultures, and industries. Each semester these instructors share their wealth of knowledge and innovative pedagogical techniques to educate and inspire Hempstead High School students.
Welcome to Academic Year 2024-2025
I hope you had an enjoyable summer and are re-energized and ready for the fall semester. Classes with Hempstead Highschool students will begin Wednesday, August 28, 2024. All Hempstead Highschool class sections will be conducted in person for the Fall 2024 semester. I ask you to forward your course syllabus to me for posting in the Hempstead Highschool Virtual Office. Please note that electronic access to the texts for your respective course will be provided to the students.
As we continue in-person instruction, be sure to record attendance at every class meeting and report any students who do not attend class sessions. I will ask that you take course attendance in the Navigate platform. You will need to use your CUNYfirst credentials to log in. Here are the instructions for recording attendance, Please note that you will have to be logged into the platform to see the instructions. Accurate attendance records are essential for the Verification of Enrollment roster, due on September 17, 2024. The academic calendar is attached for your reference.
I will monitor student performance and meet with you periodically to assess how students are progressing. If you find that a student is having difficulty or has stopped engaging, let me know. Additional support with tutoring is available and provided for students in need. If appropriate, students will be withdrawn from the course.
Given the dual-enrollment nature of the Hempstead Highschool program, you may receive communications from the parents of the students in your course. Please direct any communications from parents to me. Students participating in the program share the same FERPA protections as matriculated students.
Contact me via e-mail at rmadden@york.cuny.edu or at 718-262-2778 with any additional questions or concerns.
I extend my best wishes for a successful semester. I look forward to working with you as we provide a quality learning experience for York Early College Academy students.
