Steps to register

What steps do I need to take for the exam?

1. Prepare for the test. To prepare for and successfully pass the assessment test in English, please visit the CUNY Testing Center Homepage for resources on preparing for this exam. Additionally, please visit Accuplacer and download the free study app and/or study materials (WritePlacer® ESL, Reading Skills, Language Use, Listening, and Sentence Meaning).
2. Schedule your exam. You must use your primary email address to register for the exam. You are permitted to register for only one test session. Click here to schedule your exam!
3. Take the test. You will take the test at York College in the Academic building, Room 1G05. Please arrive 30 minutes before the time of your appointment for check-in. Plan to spend approximately 210 minutes for the test.

What do I bring on the day of my test?

You must bring a government issued ID (Driver’s license, State ID, Passport, Green Card, Military ID) or a school ID to take your assessment test. If you do not present one of the required IDs at the testing room, you will not be permitted to take the test.

What do I need to know about the test?

1. You can take the test only once and need only one test date appointment.
2. This result of your test will be sent to all CUNY colleges and can be applied to all CUNY undergraduate programs.
