York Early College Academy (YECA)

Instructional Staff

The York Early College Academy's commitment to providing a quality learning experience for students is greatly enhanced by the contributions of the dedicated instructional staff. Our cadre of instructors, who are endorsed and observed by the academic departments, hail from an array of disciplines, cultures, and industries. Each semester these instructors share their wealth of knowledge and innovative pedagogical techniques to educate and inspire York Early College Academy students.

Welcome to Summer 2024!

We appreciate that you have consented to spend a portion of your summer enriching the lives of our students. Classes begin on Monday, July 8, 2024.  All classes will be held in person at York College, Monday through Thursday, 9 am – 11:50 am. Please note that electronic access to the texts for your respective course will be provided to the students.

As we continue in-person instruction, be sure to record attendance at every class meeting and report any students who do not attend class sessions. I will ask that you take course attendance in the Navigate platform: https://york-cuny.campus.eab.com. You will need to use your CUNYfirst credentials to log-in.  Here are the instructions for recording attendance, please note that you will have to be logged into the platform to see the instructions.  Accurate attendance records are essential for the Verification of Enrollment roster, due on July 9, 2024.

I will monitor student performance and meet with you periodically to assess how students are progressing. If you find that a student is having difficulty or has stopped engaging, let me know. Additional support with tutoring is available and provided for students in need. If appropriate, students will be withdrawn from the course. Feel free to refer to the YECA Instructional Staff Handbook as a resource.

Given the dual-enrollment nature of the York Early College Academy program, you may receive communications from the parents of the students in your course. Please direct any communications from parents to me.  Students participating in the program share the same FERPA protections as matriculated students.

Contact me via e-mail at rmadden@york.cuny.edu or at 718-262-2778 with any additional questions or concerns. This year we have the added benefit of having York Early College Academy Assistant Principal, Dr. Amina Gordon who will be housed on campus.  Dr. Gordon and her team will provide support for our students and will manage all parent engagement.

I extend my best wishes for a successful summer session. I look forward to working with you as we provide a quality learning experience for York Early College Academy students.
