A Virtual Private Network (VPN) provides an encrypted connection between your off-campus computer and the YC campus network.
York College Information Technology is currently implementing Palo Alto's Global Protect as the new VPN service. Pulse Secure is no longer supported.
Members of the College community (students, faculty, and staff) have access to York College VPN(?) group resources and can begin connecting immediately using this software.

What is GlobalProtect (GP)?
GlobalProtect is the system used to connect to the Virtual Private Network (VPN) at York College CUNY. A VPN provides an encrypted connection between your off-campus computer and the campus network. Members of the college community can use this VPN service to connect to campus-specific servers and services securely remotely.
Automated Config/Install of GlobalProtect VPN For Windows clients - ALL
This installer requires that you have administrative rights to your Windows computer to properly install and configure this software. Download the following file, GlobalProtect.exe to your Windows PC.
Double-click on “Global-Protect.exe”.
Click “More Info”.
Click “Run anyway”.
Login to GlobalProtect “yorkcollege\username” then click “Connect”. If you experience connection issues, contact the Service Desk @ x5300 to see if your Username configuration needs tweaking.
How to Install and Use GlobalProtect on macOS
Check with an IT administrator before installing the GlobalProtect VPN client as you need administrative rights to install this software.
Click ' Download Mac 32/64 bit GlobalProtect agent' and then 'save file' to download the installer.
Execute the downloaded .pkg (package) file by double-clicking on the GlobalProtect.pkg file. You will need your computer's admin username and password to install.
During the installation of the GlobalProtect app 5.1.1 and earlier versions for the first time on macOS endpoints running macOS Catalina 10.15.4, the following “System Extension Blocked” notification message appears. For more information visit Palo Alto Network's KB article regarding this particular issue. Click"Open Security Preferences".
Click the lock icon to make changes and then select ‘AppStore and identified developers’ in the ‘Allow apps downloaded from’ area. Click‘Allow’.
Now that the VPN client has been installed, the GlobalProtect icon will appear in the menu bar at the top right of your screen. Click the icon to set up the VPN connection.
Type ycvpn.york.cuny.edu into the Portal Address field and click Connect. You will be prompted to sign in with your YorkID and password. The prefix is yorkcollege\yorkid
Once you are connected to the VPN, the GlobalProtect icon in the menu bar will show a darkened globe and black shield indicating you're connected to the Campus Network.
How to Install and Use GlobalProtect VPN Client on Android
Open the Play Store and search for GlobalProtect app by Palo Alto Networks. Tapinstall and when completed tapopen to launch the app.
In the What's your portal address field, typeycvpn.york.cuny.edu, and then tapConnect.
Enter your York Network ID and password in the Username and Password fields, Username is prefixed by yorkcollege\yorkID then tapSign In.
Tap OK on the Connection request dialog to let GlobalProtect set up the vpn connection.
GlobalProtect will send a notification when you are connected to the VPN service with a welcome screen. This welcome message can also communicate system events etc. Tap ok to clear it. The key icon in the status bar on the top of the screen indicates to the Android user that you are connected to the VPN network via GlobalProtect. To disconnect tap the green shield icon.
How to Install and Use GlobalProtect VPN Client on iOS
Open the App Store and search for the GlobalProtect app by Palo Alto Networks. Tapdownload/install. Once it is on your device, tapOpen to launch the app.
iOS will ask you if you wish to get notifications from the GlobalProtect app, this is an option and can be changed in Settings -> Notifications. Type ycvpn.york.cuny.edu in the portal Address field and tap Connect.
GlobalProtect will ask to be added to the iOS device's global VPN settings. TapAllow on the dialog asking to give GlobalProtect permission to add this VPN setting to the global iOS VPN configurations list (located in Settings). You may also be prompted for your iOS device's pin (or other authentication methods, 2FA, etc) to authorize this.
Enter your YorkID and password in the username and password fields, and then tap Connect. The prefix is yorkcollege\yorkID
The VPN icon will be displayed in your iOS device's status bar when you are connected to the VPN service.
GlobalProtect VPN Client on Windows (NEW INSTALLATIONS ONLY)
Check with an IT administrator before installing the GlobalProtect VPN client as you need administrative rights to install this software.
If you are not sure if you have 32 or 64 bit Windows, you can check by opening the Settings app and navigating to System/About.
Click either 'Download Windows 32 bit GlobalProtect agent' or 'Download Windows 64 bit GlobalProtect agent.'Clickrun to run the file as soon as it is done downloading.
When the file has downloaded, the GlobalProtect installer wizard will run. Clicknext since you wish to install this software. Click y es on the User Account Control dialog. You may be prompted for your computer's admin username and password.
Once the client has been installed, the GlobalProtect icon will appear in the notification area in the taskbar at the bottom right of your screen. Click the icon to set up the VPN connection.
Typeycvpn.york.cuny.edu into the Portal Address field and click Connect.
