York College ID Policy and Campus Access Procedures
General ID Policy
- All students, staff, and faculty must present or scan a valid York College ID to enter campus.
- Q.H.S.S. and Y.E.C.A. students must display their IDs at all times on campus.
- Your ID is non-transferable and cannot be used by anyone else.

For Students: Physical ID Cards
Beginning Fall, 2025, you'll need a physical York College ID card to use the campus turnstiles.
Online Photo Submission Requirements
To get a York College ID, students must be registered for classes and have an official ID like a passport, driver's license, state ID card, or immigration card. New students, have to follow the MY ID instructions to obtain thier network account. You can find these instructions by clicking the link " MY ID" or by visiting our Welcome Center located on the second floor of the Academic Core building, close to the Guy R. Brewer entrance. New students should also receive instructions through email after they've registered for classes. Once you have obtained your network account, please follow the steps below.
To submit your photo online and get your ID, you must be registered for classes and have a valid official ID (e.g., passport, driver's license).

- Your photo must be taken against a solid color background.
- You must face the camera directly, and your head and sides must be fully visible.
- No hats, dark sunglasses, or filters.
- The final image must be at least 480x600 pixels and in JPG format.
- New students must first follow the "MY ID" instructions to get their network account.
Note: During busy times, it may take 5-10 days for your ID to be ready. You will be notified via email when it's ready for pickup at the Public Safety Office.

Digital ID pass
Your Digital ID may still be used to access non-turnstile buildings such as the Health & Physical Education (HPE) Building, the Classroom Building, and the Science Building. please display/scan your ID upon entry to these areas.

- Tap on the YC ID tab to display your ID (login required every 30 days)

Lost ID Card Replacement Procedure
Lost ID cards must be reported immediately to the Public Safety Department, access will then be revoked.
Student/Staff
- Public Safety will check for returned cards.
- Student info verified on CUNYfirst.
- Lost ID replacement form completed with approved Public Safety personnel initials.
- $10.00 replacement fee paid at Bursar.
- * Upon receipt of proof of payment, a replacement ID card will be issued
Employees with Access Cards
- An ID card will be issued after the lost ID card replacement procedure *(1e) is completed.
- Lost card replacement form completed with approved Public Safety personnel initial.
- $10.00 replacement fee paid at Bursar.
- A replacement card will be issued.
Staff / Faculty
- An ID Application form must be accompanied by an HR ID request form.
- Take Photograph.
- Faculty Electronic Access ID cards will be programmed
Campus Visitor Access

To access campus, all visitors must present valid photo identification when registering with Public Safety and have official college business. If issued, Visitors must display their guest pass throughout their stay and be ready to show it to college officials. To ensure the safety and security of our college community, areas beyond our ID checkpoints or fencing are considered college property, requiring valid ID and a legitimate purpose for being on campus.
Examples of official college business include:
- Attending a pre-scheduled meeting with faculty or staff.
- Participating in a college-sponsored event or public facing activity, such as open houses, lectures, sporting event, community facing services or activities.
- Vendors delivering goods or providing contracted services.
- Track and Field access during approved public hours.
- Prospective students or their families visiting for tours or inquiries about academic programs.
CUNY Students and employees have a reasonable expectation of privacy on campus. Therefore, filming & video recording on campus by visitors is prohibited unless pre-approved by the Office of Marketing and Communications or a York College special events coordinator.
