NSF S-STEM Scholarship at York College
The NSF S-STEM Scholarship at York College, CUNY is a grant-funded program sponsored by the National Science Foundation that will award scholarships to academically talented students with demonstrated financial need.
The project, entitled "Providing Scholarships and Interdisciplinary Cohort Experiences to Increase Retention and Graduation of STEM Undergraduates in Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics, and Physics", will also provide a range of curricular and co-curricular interventions to increase retention and graduation rates and facilitate the pursuit of graduate degrees and careers in STEM.
Eligible students must major in Chemistry (BA/BS), Computer Science (BS), Mathematics (BA/BS) or Physics (BS), meet academic benchmarks, and demonstrate unmet financial need beyond available government assistance.
U.S. Department of Education STEM-CARE Program
A U.S. Department of Education’s Minority Science and Engineering Improvement Program (MSEIP) grant was awarded to the City University of New York at York College in the Fall of 2022. The goal of MSEIP is "to increase participation, retention, and graduation rates of underrepresented, particularly women, in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields". To support this effort the program entitled “Developing STEM Workforce through Career Advisement and Research Engagement” or STEM-CARE was developed here at York College. STEM-CARE aims to provide 27 qualified degree majors from the Departments of Biology, Chemistry, Biology and Earth and Physical Sciences, career advisement, research or on-field training opportunities, academic enrichment activities, and some financial assistance to assure their success and facilitate their transition into a STEM career.

Career Opportunities
NanoBioNYC is an NSF-funded interdisciplinary Ph.D. traineeship program focused on developing groundbreaking bio-nanoscience solutions to address urgent human and planetary health issues and preparing students to become tomorrow’s leaders in diverse STEM careers.
To be eligible for the Fall Fellows cohort, you must meet the following criteria:
1. Entering Second Year of PhD in Fall 2024 in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or Physics at the Graduate Center and in good academic standing
2. U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
3. Not receiving stipends from any other programs
The Graduate School Mentorship Initiative (GSMI) program aims to help graduate school applicants from minoritized backgrounds by pairing them with STEM professionals in their respective STEM disciplines. The program provides applicants with graduate school preparation material, one-on-one guidance from a mentor in their STEM field, financial assistance in the form of fee waivers, feedback on written materials, access to webinars, mock interviews, and access to a broader community of peers and mentors.
